What you'll do
You read provided scripts aloud in Tamil and record them on professional-grade equipment, following the project's guidelines for delivery and file structure. The output is clean, well-organised audio that a speech model can learn from, so each file needs accurate pronunciation, natural intonation and genuine fluency rather than a stiff read.
That last point is harder in Tamil than it sounds. The written, literary register (centamiḻ) and everyday spoken Tamil differ a great deal, and a script written in one can sound unnatural when read in the other. The ad asks for "dialectical awareness", which suggests the project cares which variety you use; confirm whether scripts should be read as written or rendered colloquially.
You run quality checks on your own recordings, submit samples during the engagement process, and respond to feedback with revisions.
Who fits
- Native Tamil with clear articulation and awareness of dialect differences
- About three years of professional audio recording, ideally media, broadcast or educational
- The ability to operate and troubleshoot recording equipment and software yourself
- Consistent, error-free output and comfort meeting strict format requirements independently
- Clear written and verbal communication
Prior audio work for language technology, e-learning or voice assistants is a plus. These are preferred qualifications; the firm practical requirement is having your professional recording equipment at the interview.
What it pays
$10–30/hour, micro1's published band. That is the widest relative spread in this group (the ceiling is three times the floor), and the $10 floor is half of what micro1's Mandarin and Brazilian Portuguese recording listings start at for the same template. The ad does not say what decides placement, or whether pay is per hour worked or per hour of accepted audio. No payment schedule is published.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Tamil broadcasters, voice artists and e-learning narrators can use existing skills and gear
- 25 openings, remote, no country restriction stated
- No AI experience needed
Less good:
- A $10 floor, low for three years of professional recording experience and your own studio equipment
- A 3x spread with no published basis for placement
- Equipment cost is yours, and a sample submission is part of the process
- No weekly hours, project length or volume are stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
- The customer is not named
