What you'll do

This is the only listing in its family that is ongoing project work rather than a one-off recording. You record natural speech in your Indian language and in English, from scripted prompts through to free conversation, and you produce code-switched recordings, meaning speech that moves between the two languages the way bilingual speakers actually talk. The other half of the job is review: you correct transcriptions of recordings and flag audio that sounds natural but does not match its transcript.

Because the ad names Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada as examples of qualifying languages, this is a general Indian-language pool, not a single-language one. The application form asks which Indian language or languages you speak natively, and that answer is required.

Who fits

  • A native speaker of an Indian language who is also fluent in English (the ad asks for full professional fluency)
  • Someone comfortable recording their own voice and following prompt specifications precisely
  • A quiet space and a microphone that produces clean audio
  • A careful reviewer who notices small transcript errors
  • Able to commit at least 10 hours a week

Preferred, not required: voice-over, podcasting or audio production experience; transcription or data annotation experience; native-level fluency in more than one Indian language.

What it pays

The board headlines $30/hr, but the ad's own contract section states $20 to $40/hr, so that is the range recorded here. The ad says the rate is set from your experience and is not negotiated down after you start. Pay is weekly through Stripe.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Ongoing work with no fixed hours, fully remote and async; you scale hours up or down week to week with no maximum
  • The ad says there is no screen recording, no keystroke monitoring and no idle timers
  • Speaking more than one Indian language natively is listed as a plus
  • The ad describes the hiring process: a roughly five-minute application (resume plus a few structured questions), resume review against a published rubric, a possible written assessment, then onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access) and a project match, usually within a week of onboarding

Less good:

  • Minimum 10 hours a week is a real commitment for an independent contractor role
  • A written assessment may be required for placement, and the ad does not say it is paid
  • Independent contractor terms: no benefits, and your own tax to manage
