Skills
  • typography & layout craft
  • template-system fluency
  • style inference & reapplication
  • visual rubric authoring
  • powerpoint
  • keynote

What you'll do

You define what a good slide looks like, precisely enough that a machine can be graded against it. Each task starts from reference decks, brand assets and structured content. You design an expert-level presentation task around them, then build a gold-standard example deck that shows the refined answer: tight typography, a consistent grid, clear hierarchy and faithful use of the visual system.

The rubric is the core deliverable. You write concrete, actionable criteria for "on-brand" and "polished", and use them to evaluate model output on visual craft, style consistency and template adherence. The ad also asks you to catalogue AI-specific failure modes, such as grids that drift, hierarchy that changes slide to slide, and elements that break brand, which anyone who has cleaned up an auto-generated deck will recognise.

Tasks, templates and evaluation systems evolve with the project, so there is regular back and forth with stakeholders.

Who fits

  • 3–5 years in an agency, in-house corporate comms or brand team, or as an independent deck designer
  • Advanced typography, layout, colour, iconography and grid skills
  • Fluency in building and extending template systems across many slide types
  • A proven ability to infer a visual style from reference decks and reproduce it accurately
  • A portfolio of high-craft decks (board, pitch, sales, brand system work)
  • Expert PowerPoint and/or Keynote, with strong Figma or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Rubric-writing or AI training experience is a plus, as is large template redesign or data-heavy deck work

Where it is open

The ad says NAMER and Europe-based. Those are regions rather than a country list, so no country filter is set here; assume designers based elsewhere are not eligible.

What it pays

$20–60/hour, but compensation is output-based: you are paid per task that meets the project specifications, with a weekly minimum number of submissions (the number is not given in the ad). Gold-standard decks take time, so a $20 floor paid per accepted task can come in well under an agency day rate. Compare micro1's Graphic Designer: Editorial, Poster & Marketing Layout listing at $20–50, which is annotation of finished layouts rather than deck building.

Start timeline

micro1 says it typically fills these roles within 48 hours and expects selected designers to start their first tasks within 24–48 hours of finishing onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A specialism (presentation design) that rarely gets its own listing
  • Independent deck designers qualify, not only agency staff
  • Rubric authoring is durable, senior-level work
  • Flagged high demand

Less good:

  • Per-task pay with a weekly minimum; rejected work is unpaid
  • A $20 floor for work that needs 3–5 years of craft
  • Only ten openings
  • Regional restriction to North America and Europe
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
