What you'll do

Mercor wants people with genuine working experience in Blender, the open-source 3D suite for modelling, sculpting, animation and rendering. The named audience is 3D artists, animators, motion designers and technical artists.

The ad does not describe tasks. It sets the conditions (Blender on your own Windows PC, a display capable of high-resolution screenshots) and leaves the rest for screening. Listings built this way usually involve demonstrating or recording real work inside the application, material that AI labs use to train agents to operate complex desktop software. That is our reading of the format rather than a statement from the ad.

Blender's interface is famously dense and shortcut-driven. Someone who models, rigs or renders in it regularly will navigate the node editor, modifiers and viewport modes quickly; that fluency is presumably what the screening tests.

Who fits

  • Blender installed on your own Windows PC and ready to open today. Mercor supplies no hardware or VMs (the software itself is free)
  • Real-world, hands-on Blender experience
  • A display producing screenshots above 2.5 megapixels: one screen at 1440p or better (16:9), 2560×1600 (16:10), a 3440×1440 ultrawide or similar, or two 1080p-plus monitors captured as one image

No degree, portfolio, years of experience or country requirement is stated.

What it pays

$30–40 per hour. This is the "Generalist" tier, the lowest band in Mercor's application-user family: the STEM listings pay $45–55, developer tools $55–65 and OS or Office listings $60–70. For freelance 3D work, though, a steady $30–40 hourly is competitive, particularly for hobbyists and early-career artists.

Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No licence cost at all, unlike most listings in this family
  • Very active: Mercor showed 38 hires on this listing this month, the highest among Mercor's Application Users listings when we checked
  • Remote and on your own schedule
  • Weekly pay terms published

Less good:

  • Lowest pay tier of the application-user family
  • A large hiring pool usually means competition and variable task supply
  • Tasks, weekly hours and duration are not described
  • Projects can be extended, shortened or ended early on need and performance
  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates excluded; contractor terms
