What you'll do

Your code and your judgment of other code are the product. The ad lists a wide spread of tasks: evaluating and ranking AI model responses to user queries, writing detailed rationales for those rankings, running evals to benchmark model performance, and writing or reviewing code that is clean, well organised and annotated. You also contribute to supervised fine-tuning by creating and maintaining task-specific datasets, work with researchers and annotators on reinforcement learning from human feedback and reward models, and review peers' code and documentation.

The ad describes work for companies in the US building research and commercial AI products.

Who fits

  • A Bachelor's or Master's in engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, including ES6 and either Node.js or Nest.js with React, Angular or Vue
  • Experience building web apps with modular, scalable architecture and testing
  • Docker knowledge, which the ad calls mandatory
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Nice to have: QA and test-driven development experience, and prompting experience with ChatGPT and other LLMs

What it pays

The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Three time options (20, 30 or 40 hours a week), so you can pick a load
  • The hiring process is stated up front: two interviews, 60 minutes technical and 15 minutes cultural and offer discussion, about 75 minutes in all
  • Fully remote, work with leading LLM companies

Less good:

  • No pay figure
  • Only a 1-month contract, with a start date described as the following week
  • Requires 4 hours of overlap with PST
  • Contractor assignment with no medical or paid leave; posted since January 2024, so confirm it is still open
