What you'll do
In Rust repositories the compiler already rules out whole classes of bugs, so the issues that remain tend to be logic, concurrency or API mistakes, which is exactly what makes them interesting to test an LLM on. This Turing project builds verifiable tasks from public repository histories with a human checking each one.
Your work:
- Triage GitHub issues in popular open-source Rust crates
- Configure repositories, including Docker and environment setup
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality
- Modify and run code locally to see how an LLM handles bug fixes
- Help researchers choose repositories and issues that challenge models
The ad mentions possible team-lead opportunities with junior engineers.
Who fits
- 3 or more years of overall experience and strong Rust
- Git, Docker and basic pipeline setup
- Able to navigate complex codebases and run real projects locally
- Open-source experience is a plus
- Nice to have: LLM research or evaluation experience, or building developer tools or automation agents
What it pays
The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing.
Commitment and location
- 20, 30 or 40 hours a week, minimum 4 hours a day, with 4 hours of overlap with PST
- Contractor assignment (no medical or paid leave)
- Contract length: 3 months, with the expected start the following week
- Locations named: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Mexico
Worth knowing
Good:
- A defined 3 month term and quick start
- Rust is in demand, so it is a stronger niche than most sibling languages
- Remote, with a choice of hours
Less good:
- No rate published
- Pacific time overlap and country limits
- Fixed term, no benefits or paid leave
- Build times for large Rust projects can eat into a working day (the ad does not mention it; check your hardware)
How hiring works
Two interviews totalling about 75 minutes: 60 minutes technical, 30 minutes technical and cultural.
About this listing
