What you'll do
Most SWE Bench work is about fixing bugs in software repositories. This strand is different: the benchmark tasks are real data engineering and data science problems, with production-like datasets, pipelines and modelling code, and you help design and check them.
- Work with structured and unstructured data for SWE Bench style evaluation tasks
- Design, build and validate data pipelines used in benchmarking
- Process and analyse data, prepare features and validate results for data science use cases
- Write, run and modify Python code locally to support experiments
- Check data quality, transformations and outputs for correctness and reproducibility
- Build clean, documented, reusable workflows
- Take part in code reviews and help researchers design hard, realistic tasks
Who fits
- 3 or more years as a data engineer, data scientist or data-focused software engineer
- Strong Python for data engineering and data science
- Experience with data processing, analysis and model-related workflows, plus solid machine learning fundamentals
- Experience with structured and unstructured data
- Able to navigate and modify complex real-world codebases, and write readable, maintainable code
- Good problem solving on algorithmic or data-heavy problems
- Excellent spoken and written English
What it pays
The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing.
Commitment and location
- At least 4 hours a day and 20 hours a week, with 4 hours of overlap with PST
- Contractor assignment (no medical or paid leave)
- Duration: 3 months, adjustable based on engagement
- Locations named: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico
Worth knowing
Good:
- Data-focused, so it suits people who find repository bug fixing dull
- Brazil is included here, unlike some Turing listings in the same family
- Remote
Less good:
- No rate published
- Pacific time overlap is long for South Asian and African time zones
- Term is 3 months and may change with engagement
- No benefits or paid leave
How hiring works
A technical interview with a live coding challenge, 60 minutes (the ad spells it "challege").
