AI training jobs in Kenya: pay, platforms and requirements

Start with the platform list

On 12 October 2026 this site had 761 listings. None is limited to Kenya or excludes it by name, and 595 set no country restriction. That number overstates what is open to you if you are looking for AI training jobs in Kenya.

Kenya is not on Mercor's supported countries page, and Mercor says it does not engage contractors in countries outside that list. That takes out Mercor's 202 open listings even though none of them names a country. Kenya is not among the 21 countries and regions that micro1's experts page says it cannot hire from, so micro1's 363 open listings remain. Add Invisible Technologies (27) and Alignerr (3), which publish no country list we could find, and the pool is 393. Browse them from all listings and skip the Mercor ones.

What it pays

Rates are in US dollars and set per listing. The 385 hourly listings in that pool have a median midpoint of $70. The entry level pays far less: micro1's data annotator role pays $6–8 an hour, its video annotation roles $8–10, and its evaluation specialist role for recent graduates $20–60.

Swahili appears on one listing. micro1's bilingual mental health expert role names Swahili among 17 languages and pays $100–200 an hour, but it is a senior clinical psychology role. There is no general Swahili language work on the site at the moment.

What they ask for

Working English is the baseline, because guidelines and written feedback are in English. Annotation roles want accuracy and the patience to follow a long spec. Evaluation and expert roles want a degree, a licence or professional experience. Platforms also check identity and your right to freelance where you live; who can actually do this work covers those checks.

Getting paid in Kenya

Kenya is covered by two of the big payout services. Stripe's Global Payouts recipient list includes Kenya, paid in shillings by wire, and asks for an address that is not a PO box. PayPal's payouts table lists Kenya as able to send, receive and withdraw. Kenya is not on Wise's list of countries where you can hold a balance.

The KRA PIN

The Kenya Revenue Authority's PIN page says you need a PIN if you are in business, among other cases. If you hold a PIN without obligation (the option for people with no taxable activity, such as students), KRA says you must update it on iTax to add the right obligations once you start earning. New PINs are registered online through iTax: choose Individual, then the online form, which asks for your basic details, your obligations and your source of income. How contract income from a foreign platform is taxed is a question for KRA or a tax professional.
