How Invisible works
Invisible Technologies sells two things: training data and evaluation for companies building AI models, and AI systems for large enterprises in banking, insurance, healthcare and other sectors. The first is where contractor work comes from. Invisible says it has trained more than 80% of the world's leading AI models, and in its own announcements it names Cohere, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services as clients.
You do not apply to Invisible directly. Expert work runs through Meridial, which Invisible describes as "an expert contractor marketplace powered by Invisible Technologies". The "Expert opportunities" link on invisibletech.ai goes to meridial.ai, and the marketplace itself lives at marketplace.inv.tech. So if you see Meridial on a listing or an invite, it is Invisible.
The work Meridial names is the full range of modern AI training: writing and answering prompts, evaluating and ranking responses, improving chain-of-thought reasoning, red-teaming, and building reinforcement learning environments (environment design, trajectory validation, judge-model calibration, reward design, edge cases). The listings we read range from coding and JSON evaluation in a dozen languages to voice recording, dialect evaluation, translation and technical task auditing for areas like GPU kernels, Kubernetes and application security.
Getting in
Meridial's public process has three steps: create a profile (skills plus a short confirmation step), browse and apply to projects, then sign a Statement of Work and start. Inside the marketplace each project shows its own "how to request to join" steps, usually uploading a résumé and then a qualification step that Meridial estimates at around 30 minutes. Some technical projects add an assessment in your specialty. The Technical Task Auditor listing, for example, matches you to one of eight tracks and tests you in that one.
Before you are invited to paid work, the marketplace also asks for ID verification, tax details and bank details, in that order.
Meridial is clear that joining is not the same as getting work: "Access to the Meridial network does not guarantee project engagements," and availability "varies based on client needs, expertise needed, and geographic eligibility." Its FAQ says that if nothing matches, your profile stays active for future projects.
Is Invisible legit?
Yes. Invisible is an established company, not an application-harvesting front. It was founded in 2015 by Francis Pedraza, who is now executive chairman. In January 2025 it appointed Matt Fitzpatrick as CEO; he previously ran QuantumBlack Labs, McKinsey's AI software unit. Invisible reported a $500 million valuation in early 2024. In September 2025 SiliconANGLE, citing Bloomberg, reported a $100 million round at a valuation above $2 billion, led by Vanara Capital with Acrew Capital and Greycroft taking part. The same report put 2024 revenue at $134 million. Invisible's own About page lists more than 250 staff.
The caveats concern the contractor experience. Meridial itself says there is no guarantee of work after you join. Onboarding (profile, qualification step, ID, tax and bank checks) is unpaid time before your first paid hour. Rates are fixed per project and many sit at the lower end of the market; see below. For general checks that separate a real platform from an imitation, see our guide to spotting fake AI training jobs.
Who can apply
Meridial says it works with experts in more than 120 countries, but each project has its own eligibility. It does not publish an exclusion list. The public project board (508 projects when we checked) lets you filter by location, and listings range from "World Wide - Remote" to single countries such as the United States, India, South Korea or Singapore. A signed-in account sees only part of the board, apparently filtered to projects it can join, and each opportunity page shows the viewer's own location rather than the project's country list. So check eligibility on the listing itself, not on a summary.
One eligibility rule is published on every listing we read: Invisible cannot support contractors on H-1B or STEM OPT status.
There is also a dedicated route for students and recent graduates: search-results evaluation from $15 to $20 an hour, according to Meridial's students page.
What it pays
Each listing shows a fixed rate before you apply, and Meridial says rates are confirmed before you start. On the listings we read in September 2026 the most common rate was $17 an hour (voice, audio, translation and text evaluation). Coding-and-JSON evaluation in various languages paid $21, and technical projects paid more: $35 for writing terminal benchmark tasks and $60 for technical task auditing. Two Scandinavian and Dutch speech projects paid $1.30 per unit instead of by the hour. We leave the company pay fields empty because rates vary this much by project.
On payment, Meridial contradicts itself. Its FAQ says earnings are "processed every two weeks". Every opportunity page we read says instead: "Payment for services provided will be issued weekly via Stripe or Wise." The per-project terms are the more specific source, so expect weekly Stripe or Wise payments on those projects, but confirm the schedule in your Statement of Work.
All work is as an independent contractor. You are not an employee of Meridial or Invisible, projects can be extended, shortened or ended early, and nothing guarantees a minimum amount of work.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A real, well-funded company with named leadership and named clients
- Every listing publishes a fixed rate and a Statement of Work before you commit
- Contract terms on every listing name weekly payment via Stripe or Wise
- Unusually broad language coverage, including dialects and regional variants that other platforms rarely hire for
- Technical tracks (GPU kernels, Kubernetes, security, SWE-bench) pay considerably more than the general work
- A separate route for students and recent graduates
Less good:
- Many listings sit at $17 an hour, low for work that often needs a professional skill
- The FAQ and the per-listing terms disagree on payment frequency
- Unpaid onboarding (qualification step, ID, tax and bank verification) before any paid work
- No guarantee of projects after you join, and Meridial says so
- Country eligibility is per project and only partly visible from inside an account
- No H-1B or STEM OPT contractors
About this page
Written from Invisible's own pages (invisibletech.ai and its About page), Meridial's public site (home, FAQ, students and open projects pages) and the Meridial marketplace listings, all read on 26 September 2026. The "Is Invisible legit?" section also draws on SiliconANGLE's report of the September 2025 funding round and Invisible's January 2025 announcement of its CEO. We are not affiliated with Invisible or Meridial and we do not process applications. Links to individual projects on this site are referral links.
