AI training jobs in Nigeria: pay, platforms and requirements

Country guide · Today

Mercor and micro1 both accept contractors in Nigeria, and 595 listings on this site set no country restriction. The harder question is payment, because the services these platforms pay through cover Nigeria poorly. What AI training jobs in Nigeria pay, what they ask for, and what to confirm before onboarding.

Which platforms accept Nigeria

On 12 October 2026 this site had 761 listings. None is limited to Nigeria and none excludes it by name, and 595 set no country restriction at all. If you are looking for AI training jobs in Nigeria, those 595 are the pool. They come from micro1 (363), Mercor (202), Invisible Technologies (27) and Alignerr (3); browse them from all listings.

Both of the large platforms take Nigerian residents. Nigeria is on Mercor's supported countries page, and Mercor says it does not engage contractors outside that list. It is not among the 21 countries and regions micro1's experts page says it cannot hire from. Invisible and Alignerr publish no country list we could find.

What it pays

Rates are in US dollars and set per listing, not per country. The 400 open hourly listings that ask for no language other than English have a median midpoint of $75. At the entry level, micro1's data annotator role pays $6–8 an hour and its video annotation roles $8–10. Its evaluation specialist role for recent graduates pays $20–60.

No listing on the site asks for Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa, so Nigerian-language work is not a route in at the moment. English is the working language for almost everything here.

What they ask for

The bar depends on the role. Annotation work asks for accuracy and the patience to follow a long written spec. Evaluation and expert work asks for a degree, a professional licence or years in the field, and is paid for that. Every platform also runs its own checks on identity and your right to freelance where you live; who can actually do this work goes through them.

The payment problem

This is where Nigeria gets harder. Mercor's payout policy names Stripe as its main method, with Wise used where Stripe is not available. Nigeria is not on Stripe's Global Payouts recipient list. Wise does not list Nigeria among the places it refuses to serve, but Nigeria is also missing from Wise's list of countries where you can hold a balance. Nigeria does not appear in PayPal's payouts country table at all.

A platform may still have a route that works, but you cannot see it from the outside. Before you spend unpaid hours on an assessment, ask the platform's support which service would pay you in Nigeria and into what kind of account. The country gaps for each payout service are set out in payment platforms and the countries they do not cover.

Your Tax ID

A public notice from the FCT Internal Revenue Service says a new Tax ID replaced previously issued TINs from 1 January 2026. For individuals it is linked to your National Identification Number, and you can retrieve the 13-digit number at taxid.nrs.gov.ng by entering your NIN, names and date of birth as NIMC holds them. A platform's tax form may ask for a taxpayer number, so have it ready. How freelance income is taxed is a separate question for a tax professional.
