What you'll do

You act as the expert reference for how an actuary actually works, so that AI models can be measured against it. The ad lists three kinds of task: checking AI-generated actuarial analysis for technical accuracy, creating worked demonstrations of pricing, reserving and risk modeling workflows, and ranking or labelling model responses against actuarial standards of practice.

The first and third are judgment work (is this reserve estimate defensible, which of these two answers is closer to what a credentialed actuary would sign off). The second is closer to authoring: you show the steps, not just the answer.

Who fits

  • An SOA or CAS credential (ASA, FSA, ACAS or FCAS), or substantial exam progress, which the ad defines as 3+ actuarial exams
  • 2+ years of professional actuarial work in pricing, reserving, valuation or modeling
  • Strong written communication, since your reasoning is what gets recorded

Preferred: an FSA or FCAS designation, experience across life, health, P&C or pensions, and fluency with actuarial tools (Axis, Prophet, R, Python). The application form asks for your SOA or CAS credential and membership number if you hold one; it is optional.

What it pays

The board shows $115/hr. The ad gives no range, so that is the only figure we can state. It does not publish payment terms, minimum weekly hours or a monitoring policy; AfterQuery's company page covers how payment works across its listings.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A single, high stated rate with no range to negotiate down from
  • Fully remote and fully async, so it fits around a full-time actuarial job
  • Counts partial credentialing: exam progress can qualify you without a designation
  • Work that uses real actuarial judgment rather than generic labelling

Less good:

  • The listing does not say how many hours a week are available or how steady the work is
  • Hourly pay and project assignment are separate things: you are matched to live work after assessment, not hired into a fixed number of hours
  • Payment terms are not published on this listing

About this listing
