Tax Practitioner, Federal Individual Income Tax (CPA/EA/Tax Attorney)

micro1: pay and who it accepts · Posted

What you'll do

This is evaluation design more than tax preparation. You read federal individual income tax law at the level of specific Code subsections, Treasury regulations and IRS guidance, then turn it into rubrics and checklists that define what a correct answer must contain. Each requirement gets a severity (critical, secondary or minor), and you score AI-generated tax analyses and computations against your own criteria.

When a response fails a criterion, you write a self-contained test scenario for it, including edge cases, specifying facts, dates, filing status and the expected result. You also flag ambiguities, statutory exceptions and conflicts in the guidance, with structured written feedback in a digital review platform. The work is remote and contract-based.

What you need

  • An active CPA licence, an Enrolled Agent designation, or experience as a US tax attorney focused on federal individual income tax
  • Extensive hands-on experience preparing or planning federal personal income tax matters for individuals
  • Proven ability to read and interpret the Internal Revenue Code, regulations and guidance beyond simple return preparation
  • Comfort with legal logic: conditions, thresholds, phase-outs, exceptions and defined terms
  • Exceptional written communication, with clear, objective and reproducible criteria

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with complex return issues such as investments, self-employment income, equity compensation, rental property or multi-state and international items
  • Interest in the intersection of tax compliance and technology, including AI and digital review platforms

What it pays

micro1 publishes $60–90/hour for this listing. The ad does not say what places a contributor within that band, or whether pay is by the hour or per task.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No prior AI experience is required; the ad says domain knowledge is what matters
  • Authoritative sources are the standard, so the work rewards real statutory reading rather than opinion
  • Fully remote

Less good:

  • Only one opening is listed, so competition for it is likely high
  • Rubric writing with edge-case scenarios is slow, careful work and the pace is not stated
  • The credential bar is specific: a CPA, EA or tax attorney with a federal individual focus
  • No duration, weekly hours or start date is published, and the customer is not named
  • Contractor terms: no benefits, and your own tax to manage

About this listing
