What you'll do
This is a question-writing and answer-checking role, not a production job. You build audiovisual problems that an AI model has to reason through, then judge whether its answers hold up against how the work is really done on a set, in a studio or at a live event.
The ad lists the territory: signal flow, equipment setup, microphone techniques, lighting design, camera operation, mixing and editing, troubleshooting and live streaming. Each task involves two jobs:
- Write the question or case study, pitched so it is hard for a model but still educational.
- Review model responses and give detailed feedback on technical accuracy and adherence to production standards and best practices.
You also work with a team of media production and technical experts to tune how difficult the questions are.
Who fits
Required:
- A technical certification or associate degree in Audio/Video Production, Broadcast Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Proven experience in audio and video production, live event support or broadcast operations, with a solid grasp of equipment and workflows
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication, with an eye for detail
Preferred:
- Several years as an A/V technician across varied settings (live events, studio recording, broadcast, corporate AV, post-production)
- Time on production teams, in technical training or on media technology initiatives
- Certifications such as CTS, Dante or Avixa, or specialised training in audio engineering, video production or broadcast technology
- Familiarity with AI or technology-driven media production
What it pays
$55/hour, the figure AfterQuery's board shows for this role. The ad gives no range. It does not say how many hours a week are available.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Your hands-on troubleshooting knowledge is the product; no machine learning background is listed as required
- Remote and asynchronous, so you set your own schedule
- Covers a broad range of audiovisual topics, so people with live, studio or broadcast backgrounds can all find an angle
Less good:
- The ad does not publish payment terms or a minimum weekly commitment, so check the company page for how pay and onboarding generally work
- Writing good test questions is slower than operating gear; expect to spend real time on wording and review
- AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification for its expert pools, and a strong result does not guarantee project work
About this listing
Read from the AfterQuery Experts board on 18 October 2026. The board dates the posting to 16 February 2026, so it has been open for some time. The ad describes the role as a remote, flexible, asynchronous position at a YC-backed startup. The framing here is ours. See AfterQuery.
