What you'll do
The work is evaluation data for frontier AI models, built from your interpreting practice. You write realistic legal interpretation scenarios (arraignments, depositions, attorney-client meetings), produce reference interpretations with the terminology and register decisions explained, then grade model output in both working languages. A central task is catching renderings that sound fluent but change the legal meaning, which is the failure that matters in a courtroom.
Who qualifies
- State or federal court interpreter certification, or an equivalent credential
- 2+ years interpreting in legal settings
- Full professional command of legal terminology in both working languages
- Clear written English for documenting your reasoning
- At least 10 hours a week
Preferred: federal certification or NAJIT membership, experience across depositions, arraignments and trial work, and sight translation or legal document translation. The application form asks which language pair or pairs you interpret and has an optional field for certified court interpreter status. The ad does not name a country requirement.
What it pays
$60 to $100/hr according to the ad text, with the rate set from your experience and not cut after you start. The board headlines $80/hr, roughly the midpoint. Pay is weekly via Stripe.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Credentialed-professional rates, higher than most language work on the board
- Fully remote and async with no fixed hours; no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers
- Ongoing project work, not single batches, with no maximum hours
Less good:
- 10 hours a week minimum
- Needs a real credential and legal experience
- Placement involves resume review and possibly a written assessment; matching to live work usually follows within a week of onboarding
The ad describes the process as: apply (about five minutes, resume plus structured questions), resume review against a published rubric, a possible written assessment, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access), then project match.
