What you'll do
Litigators in this role write the case files an AI system gets tested on. A scenario might run from pre-trial discovery through motion practice to trial strategy or a settlement or arbitration, and your reference work is what a strong litigator would actually produce at each stage: pleadings, discovery responses, motions and trial memoranda. The rubric you write then scores a model's attempt against that standard, with the explicit aim of rewarding litigation judgment rather than bar-exam recall.
Practice areas named in the ad: commercial litigation, complex and class actions, discovery and evidence management, trial advocacy and appellate practice. Scenarios can involve e-discovery platforms such as Relativity and Everlaw, litigation management software, and deposition and trial preparation tools.
Choose one or both tracks:
- US: Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal Rules of Evidence, and state court analogs
- International: English Civil Procedure Rules and arbitration rules such as ICC and LCIA
Who fits
- 5+ years as a litigator or trial attorney at a major litigation firm or corporate litigation department; the ad names Quinn Emanuel, Gibson Dunn, Boies Schiller Flexner and Kirkland & Ellis, or in-house litigation counsel
- Direct ownership of complex commercial matters, with trial or arbitration experience, which is the requirement that most narrows the pool since many senior associates settle everything
- Practical fluency in procedure, discovery and evidence rules
A JD with bar admission, or an equivalent such as Barrister or Solicitor with advocacy rights, is strongly preferred. Prior rubric or training authorship helps.
What it pays
$90–100 per hour, the standard band across Mercor's senior-lawyer evaluation series. No weekly hours or duration are given. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise; H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported.
Worth knowing
Good:
- International track suits English barristers, solicitor-advocates and arbitration specialists; no residence requirement is stated
- Drafting-heavy work that plays to litigators' strengths
- 81 hires shown this month
Less good:
- Trial or arbitration experience is expected, not just motion practice
- The rate is far below senior litigation billing
- No hours, duration or client named; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Independent contractor
