What you'll do

This is the general teaching track at AfterQuery: no single subject, no single grade band. You write realistic classroom situations that run from lesson planning through assessment, then write the reference answer a good teacher would give, including the reasoning behind each decision. Those scenarios become the test material AI labs use to see whether a model's teaching advice holds up.

You also grade model output for instructional quality and age appropriateness, and flag lessons or advice that read well on the page but would fail with a real class in front of you. The point of hiring teachers rather than annotators is that second job: spotting plausible nonsense.

Who fits

  • A teaching license or certification, or an equivalent classroom credential
  • At least 2 years of classroom teaching
  • Real depth in lesson planning, differentiation and assessment design
  • Clear written English, since another teacher has to be able to follow your reasoning

Preferred, not required: experience across several levels or subjects, curriculum development or instructional coaching, and an advanced degree in education. The application form asks what level you teach (required) and offers an optional field for your teaching license or certification.

What it pays

The board headlines $53/hr, but the ad's own contract terms give a range of $35 to $70/hr, and that is the range recorded here. It says the rate is set from your experience and is not negotiated down after you start. Pay is weekly via Stripe.

The ad also commits to remote, fully async work with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours per week with no maximum, and no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers. It describes ongoing project work rather than single task batches.

How hiring works

The ad lays out five steps: a short application (resume plus a few structured questions), a resume review against a published rubric with a decision on every application, a possible written assessment for further placement, onboarding (contractor agreement, Stripe, platform access), and a match to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A stated pay range, weekly payment and no monitoring software, all in the ad itself
  • Open-ended hours above a 10 hour weekly floor, so you can scale up or down
  • A broad, general track for teachers who have worked across levels

Less good:

  • The 10 hour weekly minimum is a real commitment for a teacher with a day job
  • Where you land in the $35 to $70 range depends on your experience, and the ad does not say how it is scored
  • A match to a project is described as usual, not guaranteed
