What you'll do

You rebuild the paperwork of a corporate accounting department so an AI model can learn from it. The ad lists revenue recognition under ASC 606, leases under ASC 842, stock compensation under ASC 718, deferred tax rollforwards and consolidation eliminations as the kinds of schedules you will build in Excel. On the PowerPoint side you summarise the effect of those entries on the financial statements, and write technical accounting memos, control observations and policy implications.

It also covers simulated close packets, audit workpapers, tie-outs, flux analyses and draft disclosures. The standard the ad sets is "audit-defensible": the logic has to reconcile and stay internally consistent, from subledgers through journals and trial balance to the financial statements.

Who fits

  • An active CPA licence (any state); the application form asks directly whether you hold a US CPA licence and marks it required
  • Strong command of US GAAP and of normal close, audit and reporting workflows
  • Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements, footnotes and supporting workpapers
  • Advanced Excel modelling of accounting mechanics, and QuickBooks experience
  • Preferred: 2 to 10 years in public accounting (Big 4 or a top regional firm) or corporate reporting, technical accounting or SOX work, and a top-50 undergraduate or top-20 master's degree in accounting (listed as optional)

What it pays

The board shows $115/hour. The ad text gives no range, so we list it as a single figure. Expect about 10 hours a week while a project is active; the work is project-based, so there will be gaps between projects. The ad does not publish its payment terms; the AfterQuery page covers the weekly Stripe payout cycle.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A high flat hourly figure for work you already do as a CPA
  • Remote, asynchronous and flexible, with no fixed hours
  • Spreadsheet and slide deliverables, not prompt writing, so the work resembles real accounting output

Less good:

  • Open only to US CPA licence holders, which rules out most other credentials
  • Roughly 10 hours a week only when a project is live; the ad promises no continuous volume
  • The ad does not describe the hiring process; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and ID verification
