Skills
  • mechanical engineering
  • thermodynamics
  • fluid mechanics
  • machine design
  • stress analysis
  • heat transfer
  • hvac

What you'll do

You write mechanical engineering questions and case studies that challenge AI models, then evaluate the models' answers with detailed feedback. The ad names the topics: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, materials selection, stress analysis, heat transfer, dynamics, CAD/CAM and HVAC systems, "and more".

Your review checks technical accuracy and adherence to mechanical engineering standards and best practice. You also work with other engineering and technical experts to tune question difficulty so the material is challenging and still educational.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program (required)
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering practice, design or analysis
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail

Preferred: several years across applications and industries (aerospace, automotive, energy, HVAC, manufacturing); involvement in engineering publications or standards work; a PE license, advanced degree or relevant certifications; familiarity with AI-driven mechanical engineering applications.

What it pays

The board shows $95/hour and the ad gives no range. The role is described as remote, flexible and asynchronous. Payment terms, a weekly minimum and a contract length are not published on this listing; see the company page and the application flow.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A single stated rate of $95/hour
  • Remote and asynchronous, on your own schedule
  • Wide topic coverage, so a specialist in one area (say HVAC or machine design) has a place

Less good:

  • No hours, duration or pay schedule stated in the ad
  • A bachelor's degree is a hard requirement
  • Hiring steps are not described in the ad; AfterQuery's help centre describes an unpaid, one-attempt assessment and identity verification

About this listing

Read from the AfterQuery Experts board on 18 October 2026; first posted 9 February 2026 and still open. This is the question-writing and evaluation version of the role; AfterQuery lists a separate, CAD-focused "Mechanical Engineering Expert" ad, covered in its own listing. See AfterQuery.
