What you'll do

This ad is about hands-on mechanical design rather than writing AI questions. The work is project-based and asynchronous, and the ad groups tasks as mechanical design, engineering analysis, technical documentation and product development support. Specifically:

  • Create, review and iterate on mechanical designs and CAD models for components, assemblies and systems
  • Produce engineering drawings, BOMs and technical documentation to manufacturing standards
  • Run engineering analysis, including stress, tolerance and design for manufacturability (DFM) assessments
  • Support product development from concept through prototype to a production-ready design
  • Document design decisions, assumptions and methods clearly enough to be reproduced

Who fits

  • 2 to 4 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, product design or a related field
  • Strong proficiency in at least one major CAD platform (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, CATIA, NX or equivalent)
  • A demonstrated ability to produce detailed mechanical designs and drawings to industry standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, product design or a related engineering field

Preferred: FEA or simulation tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation); familiarity with CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal or additive manufacturing; hardware startup or product development experience; a background in systems integration, mechatronics or electromechanical design.

What it pays

The board shows $88/hour. The ad's own selling points say project-based pay "up to $100/hour", so the exact rate for you may sit above or below the headline. This listing is recorded at the board figure of $88/hour.

Commitment

The ad says the work runs over the next 2 to 3 weeks, is assigned project by project, and expects 10 to 20 hours a week on the projects you accept. It is asynchronous and remote. The listing does not state payment terms or a payout schedule.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Real design output (CAD, drawings, BOMs) you can describe as portfolio experience, which the ad itself highlights
  • Flexible schedule within a clear weekly range
  • Work with an early-stage, Y Combinator-backed company

Less good:

  • A short window of 2 to 3 weeks, so this is not a long-running income source as written
  • The experience band is narrow (2 to 4 years) and a CAD platform is required
  • Pay terms and hiring steps are not described in the ad
