What you'll do
Structural engineers author and grade the analysis and design scenarios that AI labs use to test model judgment. Per the ad:
- Author realistic structural scenarios, from load analysis through connection design
- Write reference answers with the code and load path reasoning behind each decision
- Grade model output for structural soundness and code compliance
- Flag designs that read plausible but would be unsafe or unbuildable
Who fits
- A degree in civil or structural engineering
- At least 2 years of structural design or analysis experience
- Depth in codes such as ASCE 7, ACI or AISC
- Clear written English for documenting structural reasoning
- Able to commit at least 10 hours per week
Preferred: a PE or SE license; seismic or high-rise design experience; analysis software depth such as ETABS, SAP2000 or RISA. The application form asks for Structural Engineer (SE) and Professional Engineer (PE) credentials, both marked optional, so a license is not required to apply.
What it pays
The ad states $110 to $195/hour, paid weekly via Stripe, with the rate set from your experience and not negotiated down after you start. The board headlines $153/hour. The work is fully remote and fully asynchronous with no fixed hours, a minimum of 10 hours a week and no maximum. The ad says there is no screen recording, keystroke monitoring or idle timers, and that this is ongoing project work for an independent contractor rather than single task batches.
How hiring works
Per the ad: apply (about five minutes, resume plus a few structured questions); resume review against a published rubric, with a decision on every application; possibly a written assessment for further placement; onboarding (sign the contractor agreement, connect Stripe, get platform access); then a match to live work in your specialty, usually within a week of onboarding.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A wide stated range, up to $195/hour
- Licenses are optional on the form and preferred rather than required
- Weekly Stripe pay and no monitoring software, stated in the ad
Less good:
- A minimum of 10 hours a week
- Working knowledge of US-style structural codes (ASCE 7, ACI, AISC) is the named qualification
- The written assessment is only "possible", and being accepted does not guarantee a match to work
