What you'll do
The job is to help an AI model behave well when someone talks to it in Ukrainian about things it should be careful with. You write prompts in Ukrainian across a range of sensitive subjects, sort prompts and whole conversations into categories using written guidelines, and flag phrasings that try to get around a model's safeguards, including conversations that escalate step by step. For each call you make, you write down your reasoning.
Two things are worth understanding before you apply. First, this is not translation. Safety systems built mostly on English data tend to miss how native speakers actually phrase a request, and your value is knowing how a Ukrainian speaker would really word something, including the indirect and culturally loaded versions. Second, testing safety means deliberately writing things a model should refuse or handle carefully. The ad does not name the subject areas, so expect some uncomfortable material.
Mercor says no AI or machine-learning background is needed and that it trains you on the workflow.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Ukrainian, with business-level written English
- A bachelor's degree, completed or still in progress
- Clear written reasoning and close attention to detail
- Good judgment about sensitive and dual-use information
A plus, per the ad: experience reviewing, grading or red-teaming written or technical content, and a background in trust and safety, content moderation, policy evaluation or adversarial testing. Anyone who has moderated Ukrainian-language content will recognise the escalation patterns this work asks you to spot.
Mercor prefers applicants in Ukraine or the wider Eastern Europe region, but states plainly that this is a preference: people based elsewhere, including the Ukrainian diaspora, can apply.
What it pays
$38–42 per hour, Mercor's published figure. That matches the Croatian generalist role in the same series and sits below the $48–52 that most Western European and East Asian language versions pay. The Ukrainian STEM (PhD) version pays $48–52.
Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise, based on services rendered. If you are in Ukraine, confirm your payout route works before you start; the ad does not discuss it.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No AI experience required, and training is provided
- A degree still in progress counts
- Fully remote on your own schedule, with an immediate start
- Weekly payment terms are published up front
- Mercor showed 3 hires on this listing this month when we checked, so it is recruiting now
Less good:
- The subject matter is sensitive by design, and the ad does not say which topics
- No weekly hours or project length are stated; projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
- Independent contractor: no benefits, and tax is yours to handle
- H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded
- Nothing says what moves you within the $38–42 band
