What you'll do

This is the equities strand of the same point-in-time forecasting project as Mercor's political listings, at the same $150–250 band. The subject is event propagation: given an upcoming catalyst, which companies are genuinely exposed to it, and how should the effect transmit to each?

The work, as the ad describes it:

  • Map a company's economic network (suppliers, customers, competitors, distributors, substitutes, geographic exposure) from EDGAR filings, footnotes, exhibits, transcripts and industry data
  • Identify related names ahead of the event and separate direct exposure from loose thematic correlation
  • Estimate direction, magnitude, horizon and confidence for each, and name the mechanism: revenue, margin, earnings or valuation
  • Review AI-generated analyses and grade them against your own

The distinction the ad keeps returning to is primary sources versus screens. A model can easily list "AI beneficiaries"; the task is showing, from a 10-K customer-concentration footnote, why one supplier moves 8% on the news and a thematically similar peer should not move at all.

All tasks run from a fixed evidence cutoff: no hindsight, no data leakage, and no confidential or material non-public information.

Who fits

  • A senior sector PM, lead equity analyst or event-driven investor with deep knowledge of a specific industry
  • Hands-on experience building a company's economic network from primary filings, not from screens or third-party tags
  • Typically 8+ years of direct experience, or unusually strong equivalent evidence

Mercor looks first at multi-manager and event-driven funds, leading sector teams at major asset managers and banks, and elite specialist research firms, naming Citadel, Millennium, Point72, Balyasny, D. E. Shaw and top sell-side sector franchises. Brand names help at first pass; the work sample decides.

If you are currently at a fund, check your employer's outside-activity and compliance rules before applying. The MNPI prohibition protects the project, but your own firm may have its own view on paid analysis work.

What it pays

$150–250 per hour, Mercor's published band. Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise. Weekly hours are not stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Top-tier hourly rate
  • No published residence restriction
  • Work that uses real analyst craft: filings, footnotes and transmission mechanisms
  • Weekly payment on Stripe or Wise; remote and flexible

Less good:

  • A very high bar, heavily weighted toward top funds and sell-side franchises
  • Compliance friction for anyone currently employed in investment management
  • No stated hours or project length
  • H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
  • Independent contractor: projects can be extended, shortened or ended early
