What you'll do

This is a short questionnaire, not a project. Mercor plans a run of compliance and financial-crime engagements with AI labs, and before it fixes their scope it wants practitioners to describe the field from the inside. The intake takes about 15 minutes and is written, not a call.

You will be asked to cover:

  • Your day-to-day workflows and how your time actually splits across them
  • How experienced people divide compliance into specialties, as opposed to how textbooks carve it up
  • Concrete examples, from your own casework, of AI getting your work wrong
  • The parts of the job outsiders (project designers included) tend to miss

The ad says specificity matters more than polish, and that there are no right answers. The planned engagements span AML and BSA, KYC and client due diligence, sanctions, transaction monitoring and investigations, securities and wealth compliance, conduct and surveillance, regulatory reporting, and compliance testing.

Who fits

  • Practicing or recently practicing compliance or financial-crime professionals in first line, second line, internal audit or external advisory
  • Any seat: onboarding and CDD, AML investigations, sanctions, fraud and disputes, trade and comms surveillance, conduct and consumer protection, regulatory reporting and change, testing and assurance
  • CAMS, CGSS, CFCS, CFE, CRCM, an ICA diploma or FINRA registrations are preferred, but the ad says deep experience without a credential is equally welcome

What it pays

The listing shows $80 per hour. For a 15-minute intake that is a small amount, and the ad does not explain how the intake itself is paid. Its stated payoff is different: thoughtful answers lead to more offer matches and priority routing as the engagements open, and it quotes typical Mercor compliance rates of $90–110/hour, rising with seniority.

The listing does not publish contract or payment terms, so the usual weekly Stripe or Wise schedule and any visa restrictions are not confirmed here.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Fifteen minutes, written, no assessment attached
  • Open to every compliance specialty and to uncredentialed practitioners
  • A way to get in front of Mercor's compliance projects before they are advertised

Less good:

  • Treat the $80 figure as nominal; the real return depends on later offers that are not guaranteed
  • No payment terms, eligibility rules or location details are published on the listing
  • "CL Funnel" in the title signals exactly what this is: a recruitment funnel
