What you'll do
This is the best-paid variant of Mercor's music and lyrics evaluation project, and it asks for Norwegian. You review AI-generated lyrics for a leading AI lab (not named) and:
- Check similarity against published songs, flagging lines that come too close
- Rate quality, creativity, prompt adherence and originality
- Judge naturalness: word choice, slang and regional expressions
Norwegian is a demanding test for a language model. Songs are written in Bokmål, Nynorsk and a wide range of spoken dialects, and dialect lyrics are a strong tradition in Norwegian pop, rap and folk. A model may mix written standards, use Danish or Swedish forms, or produce a "dialect" that belongs to no real place. Knowing the Norwegian catalogue well enough to recognise a lifted line is the other half of the job.
Who fits
- Native or near-native Norwegian, and able to follow detailed English instructions
- Experience as a songwriter, lyricist, performer, composer or music journalist, with knowledge of the Norwegian music scene
- Headphones or studio monitors suitable for critical listening
Nice to have: formal music training, credited or published songwriting, and broad knowledge of contemporary Norwegian genres and artists.
The application includes a Bilingual Competency Interview in Norwegian.
What it pays
$42–78 per hour, Mercor's published range, and the widest band in this set. For comparison, the same lyrics brief pays $18 in Thai and $15 in Punjabi. The ad does not explain what places you within the range; published credits are the obvious candidate. Mercor may move to per-task pay, with the effective hourly rate meant to stay the same.
Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise. H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are excluded.
Commitment
Immediate start, up to six months. Flexible hours, most experts around 20 a week, no cap.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Strong pay for creative evaluation work, even at the floor
- Open to journalists and performers, not only credited songwriters
- Active: Mercor showed 11 hires this month on the listing when we read it
Less good:
- The band is almost 2x wide with no stated basis, so plan around $42
- Possible switch to per-task pay mid-project
- Unnamed client; contractor terms mean your own tax and no benefits
