What you'll do

This is the operational and technical side of Mercor's finance program. The Investment Finance Expert listing wants deal and markets people; this one explicitly does not. The ad says a CFA or portfolio background is not required, because the work is controllership craft, not markets.

Each scenario is deliberately messy: a stack of source documents with distractors and ambiguous guidance. You either produce the deliverable yourself or judge an AI's attempt against a professional standard. Named deliverables include:

• PnL and mark-to-market reconciliations (trader versus accounting, month-end marks, commissions, adjustments)
• Vendor and AP payment reconciliations under cash constraints, with PO, P-card and aging controls
• Integrated 3-statement and pro-forma models with purchase-accounting effects (ASC 805 deferred-revenue haircut, PPA amortization, synergy phasing)
• Covenant and credit analysis
• Partnership and professional-services allocations: profit-pool waterfalls and capital accounts

You reason from term sheets, purchase and partnership agreements, trial balances, memos and emails, and write the CFO- or partner-ready narrative explaining assumptions, variances and recommendations. Anyone who has closed a month under pressure will recognise the skill being tested: finding the three numbers that matter in a folder of forty.

Who fits

• 3+ years in a hands-on non-investment role: product or financial control, corporate FP&A, technical accounting, treasury or financial operations, AP and P2P, commercial-banking credit, or professional-services and partnership finance
• CPA, CA, ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent) strongly preferred
• Strong US GAAP or IFRS, with ASC 805 and 606 a bonus
• Advanced Excel: linked 3-statement models, reconciliations, pro formas
• Comfort making professional calls on incomplete information

What it pays

A flat $70 per hour, paid weekly on Stripe or Wise. That is $30 below the investment track, which reflects the market rates of the two backgrounds more than the difficulty of the work.

Good:

• Rare listing that values product control, AP and partnership accounting
• No CFA or markets background needed
• 3-year bar and no residence restriction stated
• Remote and self-scheduled

Less good:

• $70 flat, with no premium for seniority
• Distractor-heavy tasks can be slow; your effective rate depends on how quickly you cut through them
• H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded
• Contractor terms; projects can be extended, shortened or concluded early
