What you'll do
A short, sharply defined project: one transaction, one model, two reviews. Mercor gives you a synthetic deal document pack for a consumer or leisure business and you build the financial model from scratch. Then you peer-review two anonymised models that other contractors built on the same deal.
The deliverables:
- An editable Excel workbook with live formulas, source references and stated assumptions
- For each of the two peer models, a short written rationale against a fixed set of criteria and a completed review scorecard
The sector focus is specific. The ad describes the target fund background as consumer, leisure and multi-site services (fitness clubs, owned versus franchise, multi-site roll-ups), so expect site-level economics and the franchise mix to matter in the model.
The ad does not say what the models and scorecards are used for. Multiple independent builds of the same synthetic deal, scored against fixed criteria, are a common pattern for expert benchmark and evaluation data, but the listing itself does not confirm that.
Who qualifies
- 2–4 years in total: about 2 years in investment banking (Consumer and Retail, or generalist M&A, ideally in Paris, London or elsewhere in Europe) followed by 1–2 years in mid-market or large-cap private equity
- Currently or recently an Associate at a fund with a consumer, leisure or multi-site services focus; a Paris office or French deal experience is preferred, not required
- Able to build a model from source documents without a template
- English-speaking
- Location: one of Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland or the United Kingdom
Two sister projects use the same format and pay: Real Estate (US) and Infrastructure (US/UK).
What it pays
$80–100 per hour, paid weekly on Stripe or Wise. The effort is estimated at about 20–25 hours over 1.5–2 weeks, so the whole project is worth roughly $1,600–2,500. Treat it as a one-off engagement, not ongoing income.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A tightly scoped project with a clear end
- Open in ten European countries including the UK and Switzerland
- Associates with only 2–4 years qualify
- Reviewing peers' models is a useful benchmark of your own
Less good:
- One transaction only; no ongoing work is promised
- No template, so the build is genuinely from scratch
- H-1B and STEM OPT holders are excluded, per the standard terms
- Contractor terms; the project can be extended, shortened or concluded early
