What you'll do

The aim is to teach AI how British households really run their money. Part of the work is hands-on: everyday personal finance tasks such as reviewing transactions, budgeting and organising accounts, done on securely connected UK bank accounts with all personally identifiable information redacted.

The rest is expert judgement. You write clear guidance on UK-specific questions (ISAs, pensions and SIPPs, mortgages, savings and HMRC Self Assessment), critique AI-generated financial advice against defined rubrics with feedback the model team can use, and verify financial documents to show how consumers and their advisers handle filing deadlines, account types and decisions. You also help develop the evaluation rubrics and grading criteria, and keep up with changes to UK tax, pension and savings rules that affect the project.

No prior AI experience is required; the ad says domain knowledge is what matters.

Who fits

micro1 lists these as preferred qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, economics or a related field
  • 4+ years of hands-on work on UK household finance: ISAs, pensions and SIPPs, mortgages, Self Assessment
  • A background in banking, wealth management, financial advice or planning, accountancy or tax planning, or your own advisory or tax practice
  • Current UK residence with active UK personal or business bank accounts
  • Credentials such as CFP, DipPFS, FCA-authorised IFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CTA or ATT, with CFA or CTP a strong plus
  • Exceptional written communication that turns complex finance into plain language
  • Rubric-based evaluation or model output review experience, desirable but not required

The location line says only "Remote". UK residence appears under preferred qualifications rather than as a hard rule, but the tasks themselves run on UK bank accounts, so non-residents should expect to be screened out.

Your bank account is part of the job

The scope of work uses securely connected UK bank accounts, with personal details redacted. The ad does not name the connection provider. Before applying, ask which accounts are needed, what data is read and kept, who sees it before redaction, and how to revoke access when the project ends.

What it pays

$90–110/hour, micro1's published figure, quoted in US dollars. Its sibling, Personal Finance Expert (Canada), carries the same band. The ad gives no compensation structure, weekly hours or project length.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Accepts a wide spread of UK credentials, from DipPFS advisers to chartered accountants and CTA tax advisers
  • Independent practitioners with their own advisory or tax practice are explicitly welcome
  • 30 openings, flagged new and high demand
  • No AI background required

Less good:

  • Connecting personal bank accounts is a real privacy decision
  • Pay is in US dollars, so sterling earnings move with the exchange rate
  • No hours, duration or pay structure published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
