What you'll do
The work mirrors a mid-level audit or reporting role, pointed at AI training rather than a client file. You review financial statements for accuracy and compliance with GAAP or IFRS, assess and document audit procedures and internal control frameworks, and check tax compliance documentation against the relevant rules.
There is a modelling strand too: developing and validating financial models in Excel. And there is a writing strand that carries the most weight for the customer: written reports summarising findings and recommendations on the data you are given, concise feedback on financial documentation, and real-world scenarios and case studies drawn from your own experience that feed the training data.
That last part is what distinguishes this from pure grading. The scenarios you contribute become the material the model learns from, so the quality of your examples (the messy intercompany balance, the control that looked fine on paper) matters more than volume.
Who fits
- At least five years of hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit or tax compliance
- A deep working knowledge of GAAP and IFRS, including international reporting requirements
- Expert Excel, including financial modelling and advanced analytical functions
- A track record of conducting audits and preparing audit documentation across different kinds of entity
- The ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly in writing and verbally
A professional certification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent) is described as highly valued rather than required, and experience with process improvement or technology-driven finance projects is a plus. No prior AI experience is needed.
What it pays
$60–75/hour, micro1's published figure. The band is narrow, which is useful: there is less guesswork about where you land than on most micro1 listings.
For comparison inside micro1's own finance roles, this sits above the $20–30 Accountant (CPA/CA) listing and below the Senior Accountant Expert listing at $60–120, which asks for similar skills but is restricted to US-based contributors. No compensation structure is stated, so whether the rate is for time or a per-task equivalent is not answered on the page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Fifteen openings and flagged as high demand
- A tight $15 band, so the offer is predictable
- GAAP or IFRS both count, which suits auditors outside the US
- CPA or ACCA is valued but not a hard gate
- Contributing real case studies draws on your own judgement
Less good:
- The five-year floor rules out newer auditors
- No weekly hours, project length or compensation structure published
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- The customer and its product are not named
