What you'll do

micro1 frames this as a fellowship with a name, "The Winning Motion", and a narrow thesis: frontier models can often reach the right legal answer, but they are still poor at turning that answer into advocacy a judge finds persuasive. Your job is to close that gap.

In practice that means three kinds of work:

  • Simulated practice. Motion drafting, briefing and litigation strategy exercises, done as you would for a real case.
  • Evaluation. Reviewing AI-generated motions and responses to litigation scenarios, and explaining what separates a competent brief from an exceptional one: how arguments are framed, how authority is used, how facts are ordered, where persuasive judgment shows.
  • Standards. Writing objective grading criteria so AI performance on litigation tasks can be scored consistently, and refining guidelines with the product and research teams.

The standards work is what the fellowship pays for: turning the sense that a brief "feels weak" into criteria another reviewer applies the same way.

Who qualifies

  • Substantial experience litigating civil matters in federal court, including motion practice, briefing and case strategy
  • A record of at least three motions won in federal civil litigation, with documentation (court orders or docket entries). This is the hard gate, and it is unusual: most legal AI listings ask for years of practice, not proof of outcomes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and close attention to detail
  • The ability to translate legal expertise into feedback an AI team can act on
  • Interest in law and technology, and experience with cross-disciplinary teams

Preferred: prior exposure to AI, legal tech or training work, and experience across motion types (motions to dismiss, summary judgment, discovery motions).

No bar admission, jurisdiction, firm tier or residency is named. Federal court practice implies US practice, but the ad does not restrict where you live.

What it pays

$150–300/hour, micro1's published band. The floor is high for contract legal work and the ceiling doubles it, with nothing published on how you are placed. No compensation structure is stated, so whether this is time-based or a per-task equivalent is not said. Ask before you commit.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A $150 floor, among the stronger floors for legal AI work
  • The qualification is what you have won, not where you trained or which firm you worked at
  • The work sits close to real litigation craft: drafting, briefing, strategy
  • 50 openings, flagged as high demand
  • Explicitly part-time

Less good:

  • You will need to assemble docket entries or orders for three wins before applying, which takes time
  • Transactional lawyers and state-court practitioners are outside the brief
  • No weekly hours, project length or start date is stated
  • No pay structure is published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage

About this listing
