What you'll do
This is a psychiatrist's version of AI training work, and it leans on clinical practice more than its psychologist sibling does. You develop and evaluate complex psychiatric case studies that give a model realistic, culturally specific scenarios, and you add expert annotations to psychological assessments that reflect how psychiatry is actually practised with Gujarati-speaking patients.
Much of the value is in what a Gujarati clinic knows that a textbook does not: how families take part in consultations, how symptoms are described in the body before the mind, how stigma shapes what a patient will say. The ad also asks you to review and critique sensitive case content with confidentiality and professional ethics in mind, to help build frameworks for passing psychiatric information accurately between Gujarati and English, and to give feedback on the methods AI systems use to evaluate mental health content.
Everything you produce is written up in both languages, and you work with the project's AI teams. The customer is not named.
Who fits
micro1 lists these as "preferred qualifications", but a medical route into psychiatry is what the title implies.
- A medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent), a completed psychiatry residency and a valid medical licence
- Native Gujarati and advanced English, written and spoken
- Extensive experience of psychiatric assessment, treatment planning and case documentation in Gujarati clinical settings
- Cultural sensitivity and ethical reasoning in complex mental health cases
- A background in developing teaching materials or case studies for education or research
- Interdisciplinary project experience, ideally in technology, research or digital health
- Familiarity with both Western and Gujarati psychiatric frameworks
No AI experience is needed. The "Gujarati clinical settings" line is the one to weigh: a Gujarati-speaking psychiatrist who has only ever practised in English will have a thinner case than one who has run clinics in Gujarat or served a Gujarati community abroad. The ad does not say which country's licence counts.
How it compares
The sister listing, Bilingual Gujarati Psychologist (PhD), pays the same $100–200/hour for PhD psychologists and centres on evaluating AI output and keeping assessments faithful across languages. This one asks for a medical degree and puts more weight on case construction, teaching material and clinical annotation. micro1's broader Bilingual Mental Health Expert listing does not include Gujarati among its 16 languages.
What it pays
$100–200/hour, identical to the psychologist band, so a psychiatrist is not paid a premium for the medical training. The ad does not explain placement within the band, the pay structure, weekly hours or project length.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Flagged high demand, with 70 openings
- Values Gujarati clinical experience that rarely has a market outside the clinic
- Case-building and teaching-style work suits psychiatrists who supervise or teach
- Remote, with no country restriction on the ad
Less good:
- The same band as PhD psychologists despite the longer training path
- A 2x spread with no published basis for placement
- No hours, duration, pay structure or start date stated
- Constructing and critiquing difficult psychiatric cases can be draining
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
