What you'll do

You build the test material an AI is measured against in infrastructure work. Each task is modelled on something that happens in production: a broken pipeline, a container that will not schedule, a Terraform change, a monitoring gap, an incident to triage. For each one you write a working reference solution with setup and validation steps so someone else can reproduce it.

The second half is review. You look at what an AI produced for the task, work out where and why it failed, and write precise corrections with the reasoning behind them. Reproducibility is the quality bar the ad keeps returning to: a task whose reference solution only works on your laptop is a failed task.

You also feed back on task design so later batches improve.

Who fits

  • 3+ years in DevOps, SRE, platform or infrastructure engineering
  • Real coding in Python, Go, Bash or TypeScript (the ad is explicit that scripts alone are not enough)
  • Practical depth in CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins), Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one of AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi or CloudFormation
  • Advanced Linux and Git
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • At least 20 hours a week available

Preferred: observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry), security or secrets management, open source or technical writing, and any previous AI training or evaluation work.

What it pays

$50–100/hour, micro1's published figure. The ad does not say whether pay is hourly or per accepted task, or what places you in the band; the qualifications list suggests depth in observability and security is what separates the top from the bottom.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Uses real infrastructure experience directly
  • Writing reproducible reference solutions is a skill that also shows up in good runbooks
  • 30 openings
  • No AI experience required

Less good:

  • 20 hours a week minimum is a real commitment alongside a day job
  • A 2x pay band with no published placement criteria
  • Pay structure not stated
  • Reviewing plausible but broken AI infrastructure code is tedious
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
