Skills
  • clinical reasoning
  • clinical risk assessment
  • disordered eating specialization
  • severity staging
  • intervention judgment
  • child/adolescent clinical safety expertise

What you'll do

You review adolescent eating disorder cases and write detailed evaluations of both the clinical and the medical risk. Characterisation runs against DSM-5 criteria and validated screening instruments (EDE-Q and SCOFF are named), and you identify comorbidities and safeguarding concerns that change severity or the intervention required.

Medical stability is a distinct part of the brief. You determine it, and identify cases needing urgent escalation, using recognised frameworks; MEED is named. You also judge whether a treatment modality fits the adolescent's clinical stage, with FBT and CBT-E named specifically.

Finally you benchmark your judgments against peers and published guidelines so the set stays consistent, and produce guidance that a non-specialist can act on, grounded in current clinical standards, which means writing for someone without your training.

What you need

  • Three to five or more years post-qualification working directly with adolescent patients in a clinical setting
  • A specialist background in eating disorders, in child and adolescent psychiatry or psychology, or in adolescent or paediatric medicine with an eating disorder focus
  • An active clinical licence or registration in good standing
  • A recent adolescent caseload, or active practice within the past two years
  • Proficiency with DSM-5, EDE-Q and SCOFF, and with diagnostic frameworks
  • Familiarity with medical risk protocols such as MEED, and with FBT or CBT-E
  • Excellent written English: native, or IELTS 7.5+ with 7.0+ writing, TOEFL 100+, or Cambridge C1–C2

These are filed under "preferred qualifications", but the licence and the recent caseload are not the kind of thing a project like this waives.

This listing explicitly admits paediatric and adolescent physicians, not only psychiatry and psychology. Given that the brief includes medical stability and MEED, a paediatrician who manages the physical side of eating disorders is squarely in scope even without a mental health specialty.

Nice to have

  • Experience in medical stabilisation for adolescents
  • Formal FBT or CBT-E training
  • Expertise in co-occurring conditions such as self-harm or anxiety

What it pays

$45–95/hour. The band is $50 wide with no published basis for placement.

The ad carries no compensation-structure section at all, so whether the hourly figure buys your time or is a per-task equivalent is unanswered. Ask before you accept.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • $45–95/hour for remote, asynchronous clinical reasoning with no caseload of your own attached
  • Paediatric and adolescent medicine qualify, not just psychiatry and psychology
  • Your existing specialty is the whole qualification; no AI background is asked for
  • The work stays inside scope of practice: characterisation, medical stability, modality fit, escalation
  • Peer and guideline benchmarking is built into the brief, which is rare in this market

Less good:

  • Three openings. A small specialist panel, and most applicants will not be placed
  • No compensation structure is stated anywhere on the listing
  • An active licence and a caseload within two years exclude anyone recently out of practice
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
  • The output is guidance a non-specialist will act on in adolescent eating disorder cases, including on medical stability and escalation. Neither the customer nor the deployment is named, and that is worth weighing deliberately given the population
