What you'll do
This is the reasoning-and-review side of circuit design, not the scripting side. You work through advanced electrical engineering problems across analog, digital, mixed-signal, power and RF, then assess AI-generated answers to similar problems for technical correctness and engineering quality, and explain in writing where the model went wrong.
Expect textbook analysis done at expert depth: Kirchhoff's laws, node-voltage and small-signal analysis, phasors, Thevenin equivalents, hybrid-π models, finite state machines and timing analysis are all named. Alongside the theory the ad asks for practical judgment on realistic design scenarios, the kind that separates a correct derivation from a design that would actually work.
Who fits
- An MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or a BS in EE with 8+ years of relevant industry experience
- At least 5 years of hands-on design in analog, digital, mixed-signal, power or RF, including hardware that reached production or tape-out
- Deep knowledge of semiconductor devices, power electronics, RF/microwave and control systems
- Familiarity with reliability, EMC and modern CMOS scaling
- Professional-level written and spoken English
IC/ASIC work, Cadence, Synopsys or Mentor tools, PCB design or high-speed validation help. The ad also strongly prefers evidence that you can author rigorous problems: service on an IEEE, JEDEC or IPC standards committee, item writing for NCEES or qualifying exams, a verified tapeout, placement in a recognised student design contest, a best-paper award at a major circuits conference, a patent tied to shipped silicon, or an early-career fellowship such as NSF CAREER.
What it pays
Quoted as $60–130/hour, paid per task that meets the project specification, so the hourly figure depends on how quickly your tasks pass. There is a weekly minimum number of tasks, but the ad leaves the actual number blank.
Compared with micro1's Circuit Design Expert listing ($80–150/hour, per task), this one pays less at both ends and asks for more seniority, but little or no Python. If you code, that listing is the better deal; if you are a senior designer who does not script, this is the one written for you.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No programming requirement, unlike its sibling
- 25 openings, high demand
- Problem-authoring credentials that rarely pay anywhere else are valued here
- Remote, no country restriction named
Less good:
- A senior bar for a band that starts at $60
- Per-task pay with an unstated weekly minimum
- Expected to start within 24–48 hours of onboarding
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
