What you'll do

You transcribe audio that mixes Hindi and English, then review and correct the transcripts and annotate the files with metadata and contextual notes that the AI training pipeline needs. Assignments are delivered against project milestones and quality benchmarks, and you feed back on tools, workflow and the linguistic problems you run into.

The Hindi and English mix is the hardest part. Everyday Hindi speech moves in and out of English mid-sentence, and a transcription standard has to decide whether English words are written in Latin script or Devanagari, how to handle Urdu-origin vocabulary, and what to do with words that are both. The ad does not publish those conventions, so expect to learn a style guide and apply it strictly. Accuracy on "complex or varied content" is named as the professional bar.

Who fits

  • Native-level Hindi, spoken and written
  • Professional experience in high-accuracy audio transcription, particularly on complex or varied content
  • Familiarity with industry-standard transcription tools or platforms
  • Close attention to detail and clear written communication for flagging ambiguities
  • The ability to juggle several assignments and adapt as project requirements change

AI training, data annotation or linguistic resource experience is an advantage. No AI experience is required. English is part of the audio itself, so working comprehension of spoken English is implied.

What it pays

$20–36/hour, micro1's published band. It is identical to the French, German, Italian, Japanese and Korean Language Expert roles posted the same week, so Hindi speakers are being offered the same rate as the other markets rather than a regional discount. The ad does not state hours, project length or what decides placement.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Same band as the European and East Asian language versions
  • Code-mixed Hindi and English is a skill most Indian professionals already have
  • 15 openings on a recent listing
  • Remote, with no country restriction on the listing

Less good:

  • Professional transcription experience is expected
  • Script conventions for mixed speech are not published up front
  • No hours, duration or start date published
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
