What you'll do

The work is quality review of the notes hospitalists write every day. You read inpatient clinical documentation (H&Ps, progress notes and discharge summaries) and judge whether each one is clinically accurate, complete and faithful to the patient encounter it describes.

When the record is ambiguous or contradicts itself, you adjudicate and make a clear, reasoned call. You flag clinically significant errors, omissions and inconsistencies and sort them by severity, apply structured rubrics and quality criteria the same way across cases, and write a short rationale for every decision. You also help refine the review guidelines themselves.

The ad frames the client as a customer focused on inpatient quality and documentation, and asks for people who enjoy putting nuanced clinical reasoning into words, written and verbal.

How this differs from the other hospitalist listings

micro1 already runs two hospitalist listings, Hospitalist Physician and Senior Hospitalist Clinical Reviewer, both at $70–100/hour. This one pays more, $100–150/hour, and is narrower in focus: it is about the documentation itself (accuracy, completeness and fidelity of notes, with severity grading) rather than verifying raw FHIR data or judging whether care was appropriate. Its experience bar sits between the two siblings: five years as an attending, against recent practice for one and ten years for the other, and it opens a second route through leadership of documentation audit programmes. It has 20 openings to their thirty.

Who fits

micro1 lists all of these as preferred rather than required:

  • MD or DO, board certified in internal medicine or family medicine
  • Five or more years as an attending hospitalist, or demonstrated leadership of documentation audit programmes
  • Deep familiarity with inpatient documentation standards and hospital QA processes
  • Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) programme experience, as a plus
  • An understanding of how documentation feeds into coding, billing and compliance
  • Comfort working independently and remotely

The ad does not mention AI experience at all. Family medicine physicians who have done hospitalist work qualify alongside internists.

What it pays

$100–150/hour, micro1's published figure. The ad gives no compensation structure, weekly hours or project length, and does not say whether pay is hourly or per case.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • The highest band of micro1's current hospitalist listings
  • A documentation-audit leadership route in, not only years at the bedside
  • CDI and coding knowledge counts, which suits physician advisors and CDI leads
  • 20 openings, flagged new and high demand

Less good:

  • Still below typical clinical hourly rates for experienced hospitalists
  • No hours, duration or pay structure published
  • Consistent rubric application across many notes can be repetitive
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
