What you'll do
You evaluate how an AI model reasons through business strategy and consulting-style problems, and then improve it. That means writing high-quality prompts, writing the model answer yourself, and giving detailed feedback on where the model's reasoning falls short, applying structured frameworks to assess reasoning quality and name the gap rather than just marking an answer wrong.
The ad describes the work as a partnership with a leading AI lab, and says the guidelines evolve as the project runs, so you work alongside the project team rather than against a fixed spec. Your consulting toolkit is the qualification: structured problem solving, business analysis, and writing that holds up under scrutiny.
What you need
- At least one year at a top consulting firm (the ad names McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Strategy&, L.E.K. and Oliver Wyman, "or similar") with at least part of that time inside the past seven years
- An undergraduate degree from a top-ranked university
- A base in an English-speaking country
- Excellent written English
These are filed under "preferred qualifications", but a named-firm list and a seven-year recency window work as hard requirements in practice.
On the country requirement: the ad restricts applicants to English-speaking countries without publishing which ones count. The eligibility field on this page is left open because the restriction is undefined, not because the role is worldwide. Confirm your own position before you apply.
What it pays
$245–280/hour. The rate reflects the firm on your CV and the reasoning it trained.
The band is narrow at $35 wide, which is unusual and a good sign: the number you see is close to the number you get. What the ad does not include is a compensation-structure section, so whether the hourly figure buys your time or is a per-task equivalent is unanswered. Ask before you accept, because at this rate the difference is large.
Worth knowing
Good:
- $245–280/hour is the highest published rate on this board by a wide margin
- A narrow $35 band, so the number you see is close to the number you get
- One year at a qualifying firm is the floor: this is open to people who left consulting early, not just partners
- The seven-year recency window is generous; consulting experience from 2019 still counts
- Remote, asynchronous, and the work is recognisably consulting rather than annotation
Less good:
- Five openings against a candidate pool of every ex-MBB consultant who reads a job board
- The firm list and the "top-ranked university" requirement are pedigree filters that no amount of demonstrated skill gets you past
- Restricted to English-speaking countries, which the ad does not define
- No compensation structure stated, which at this rate is the single most consequential omission on the page
- No start timeline, no project duration, and the AI lab is not named
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
- Guidelines are stated to evolve during the project, so early work may be redone as the spec moves
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 7 September 2026. The $245–280/hour band, the firm list and every qualification above are its own published text for this listing.
A restriction to English-speaking countries is stated but no list of them is published, so the eligibility field is left open rather than filled with a guess. We could not verify the pay structure, the per-task rate, the project duration, or the identity of the AI lab; none is stated. Screening and payment run at the platform level. See micro1.
