What you'll do
Despite the broad title, this is a transcription role. micro1's own description calls the people it wants Mandarin Transcription Experts, and the work is creating accurate, verbatim transcripts from audio in both Mandarin and English, then enriching them for AI training.
Verbatim means you write down what was said, not a tidied version of it, which on conversational Mandarin means deciding how to handle fillers, false starts, code-switching into English mid-sentence and words you can hear but cannot resolve. On top of the transcript you add tags or contextual notes as the guidelines require, then proofread and edit for accuracy and consistent formatting. Ambiguous passages go back to the project coordinators rather than being guessed.
The last line of the scope is the AI-training angle: you are expected to contribute linguistic insight that helps the model handle Mandarin better, which in practice means flagging recurring patterns as well as fixing individual lines.
Who fits
- Native fluency in Mandarin with strong listening comprehension
- Professional transcription experience, ideally with Mandarin audio
- A habit of producing error-free work, and familiarity with transcription tools or platforms
- The discipline to manage deliverables remotely without supervision
- Bilingual Mandarin-English project experience is a plus, and useful here since the audio is in both languages
No AI background is needed. All of these are listed as preferred qualifications rather than hard requirements.
What it pays
$20–36/hour, micro1's published band. micro1 runs a second listing, Mandarin Transcription Expert, with a word-for-word identical job description but a lower band of $20–30/hour and 10 openings. The floor is the same; this listing's ceiling is $6 higher. If you qualify for one you qualify for both, and the ad does not explain the difference, so it is worth asking which project you are being considered for.
No payment schedule is published, and the ad does not say whether pay is per hour worked or per hour of audio transcribed.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A higher ceiling than the identically described sibling listing
- 15 openings, posted recently
- Bilingual Mandarin-English speakers get real use out of both languages
- No AI experience required, and no country restriction stated
Less good:
- The $20 floor is modest for professional transcription work
- Verbatim transcription of mixed-language audio is slow, careful work, and any audio-minute-based pay would punish difficult files
- No weekly hours, project length or volume are stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
- The customer is not named
