What you'll do
You listen to audio in Mandarin and English and produce accurate, verbatim transcripts: what the speaker actually said, hesitations and all, formatted to the project's rules. Each transcript then gets tags or contextual notes where the guidelines call for them, and a proofreading pass before it is delivered.
The ad expects you to raise problems rather than paper over them. Ambiguous content goes back to the project coordinators to resolve, and you are asked to contribute linguistic insight that improves how the model handles Mandarin. For a transcriber that usually means noticing recurring trouble spots (regional pronunciations, homophones the context does not settle, English loanwords inside Mandarin sentences) and saying so.
Who fits
- Native Mandarin fluency with advanced listening and comprehension
- Professional-level transcription experience, especially on Mandarin audio
- Familiarity with transcription tools or platforms, which the ad calls highly desirable
- Attention to detail and a commitment to error-free deliverables
- Comfort working independently on remote deadlines
Bilingual Mandarin-English project experience and an interest in language technology are pluses. No AI background is needed, and all of these are listed as preferred rather than mandatory.
What it pays
$20–30/hour, micro1's published band, for 10 openings.
The job description on this listing is word for word the same as micro1's Mandarin Language Expert ad, which pays $20–36/hour for 15 openings. Same floor, $6 lower ceiling here, and no explanation in either ad for the gap. This one was posted earlier, so it may belong to an earlier phase of the same work. If you apply to both, ask which one an offer is for.
No payment schedule is published, and the ad does not say whether pay is per hour worked or per audio hour delivered.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A clear, well-defined transcription task for native Mandarin speakers
- No AI experience required, and no country restriction stated
- Bilingual audio makes good use of strong English as well as Mandarin
Less good:
- A lower ceiling than the Mandarin Language Expert listing, which describes the same work
- Only 10 openings
- Verbatim transcription is slow, and unclear pay mechanics could turn difficult audio into a poor effective rate
- No weekly hours, project length or volume are stated
- Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
- The customer is not named
