Skills
  • outpatient professional fee coding
  • coding auditing
  • e/m leveling
  • ncci bundling
  • cpc certification
  • audit program management

What you'll do

This is second-level coding review. You audit outpatient professional fee coding for accuracy and compliance, review other coders' work for errors and gaps, and make the final call on complex or ambiguous cases. The ad names the four areas where most disagreements live:

  • E/M leveling
  • Modifier -25
  • Time versus medical decision making
  • NCCI bundling

You document findings with written feedback, spot coding trends and recommend fixes, and help calibrate other reviewers. The throughput is stated: roughly ten reviews per day, which is useful and rare. It lets you estimate the time commitment, and it suggests each review is a substantive case rather than a quick spot check.

The purpose, per the ad, is AI training for a customer in the academic medical centre space; in practice your decisions become the gold standard the model's coding is measured against.

Who fits

  • AAPC CPC certification; CPMA preferred
  • Ten or more years of medical coding, or experience managing outpatient professional fee coding audits at an academic medical centre
  • Experience auditing other coders
  • Deep knowledge of outpatient pro-fee coding, E/M leveling, modifier -25, time vs MDM and NCCI edits
  • Consistent, well-supported decisions and strong written feedback
  • Comfort calibrating other reviewers

QA programmes, gold-set review or AI/ML data validation experience is a plus.

What it pays

$30–40/hour, micro1's published figure. For a CPC with a decade of experience and audit leadership, that is at or below typical coding auditor rates, and only slightly above micro1's own $25–40 Medical Coder listing, which asks for far less. At ten reviews a day, check how "a day" translates into paid hours. No compensation structure or duration is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Fifty openings, flagged high demand
  • A stated daily throughput, so the workload is predictable
  • Academic medical centre audit experience is a direct route in

Less good:

  • Pay is modest for the seniority asked, and barely above the entry coder listing
  • Ten years or AMC audit leadership is a high bar
  • No hours, duration or pay structure published beyond the daily target
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
