What you'll do
This is a salaried research role on micro1's own team, the medical counterpart to its finance research post. The job is to decide how AI performance in healthcare is measured, and to own that measurement.
The work covers designing evaluation frameworks for AI systems in healthcare and medicine (benchmarks, scoring methods, clinical quality rubrics, validation protocols); researching medical reasoning, evidence-based decision making, clinical workflows and information synthesis; building benchmark datasets and evaluation environments from real healthcare and biomedical scenarios; and analysing performance, safety, reasoning quality and failure patterns. You write research reports, methodologies and best-practice guidance, and contribute to industry standards for healthcare AI evaluation.
You work alongside researchers, clinicians and engineers. For a clinician-researcher, the shift is from being the reviewer who applies a rubric to being the person who decides what a trustworthy medical AI benchmark should contain, including where safety sits in the scoring.
Who fits
- An advanced degree in medicine, public health, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, epidemiology, health economics or a related field (MD, DO, PhD, MPH, PharmD and similar)
- Deep expertise in clinical practice, healthcare operations, biomedical research, public health, healthcare analytics or evidence-based medicine
- Demonstrated medical, clinical or healthcare research experience
- A strong grasp of research design, evidence evaluation and healthcare decision-making
- Excellent analytical reasoning and scientific communication
- Experience in multidisciplinary settings spanning research, healthcare, technology or policy
Nice to have
- Digital health, clinical decision support, healthcare analytics or health technology assessment experience
- Familiarity with quality measurement, clinical guidelines, evidence synthesis or healthcare benchmarking
- Published research, and experience with clinical studies or systematic reviews
What it pays
The ad's compensation notice states a national base salary range of $200,000–250,000 for this full-time position, with equity for all employees and possible performance bonuses. Listed benefits: up to 100% reimbursement of health-insurance premiums, paid time off and a 401(k) with company match.
micro1's board shows two other figures for this post. The listing card reads $400,000–800,000/year, which may reflect total compensation but is not explained anywhere in the ad text, and the detail panel shows $7–8/hr, which is plainly a display error. The base salary is the only figure the ad spells out, so it is the one used here. Confirm total compensation during the process.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Salaried, with equity and benefits, rare among medical AI listings
- Accepts a broad range of health degrees, not only MDs
- Ownership of evaluation design rather than task-level review
- Remote-first
Less good:
- One opening
- Inconsistent pay figures on micro1's board
- The 401(k) and national pay range suggest a US employment setup, though no country requirement is stated; confirm if you are outside the US
- The ad notes that AI tools assist in candidate screening alongside human review
