What you'll do

The project trains AI on how Canadian households actually manage money, and the unusual part is that you do some of the work on real accounts. Tasks are authentic personal finance workflows run through securely linked Canadian bank accounts, with personal information redacted before anything is used downstream.

Around that, you apply professional judgement to the questions Canadians ask most: RRSPs, TFSAs, FHSAs, mortgages, savings plans and CRA personal tax filing, written up as clear explanations. You review AI-generated financial guidance against set rubrics and give short, constructive feedback, verify and interpret financial documents to show how consumers and advisors handle registered accounts and tax deadlines, and help draft and refine the rubrics and grading criteria themselves. Keeping up with changes to Canadian tax and registered-account rules is part of the brief.

No prior AI experience is required; domain knowledge is what the ad asks for.

Who fits

micro1 lists these as preferred qualifications:

  • Active standing in a Canadian credential: CFP, QAFP, CIM, PFP or CPA
  • CFA or CTP on top of Canadian credentials, as a plus
  • 4+ years of hands-on banking, wealth management, financial advising, accounting or tax planning for Canadian households
  • Experience with rubric-based evaluation, model output review or AI training projects
  • The ability to draft assessment guidelines, rubrics or scoring criteria for complex financial topics
  • Exceptional communication, including explaining technical financial concepts to different audiences
  • Comfort securely connecting personal Canadian bank accounts via Plaid

The location line says only "Remote", with no country restriction, but the work as described depends on Canadian bank accounts and Canadian tax knowledge, so in practice it is aimed at people living and banking in Canada.

Your bank account is part of the job

The ad expects you to connect your own Canadian bank accounts through Plaid, with all personally identifiable information redacted before use. Before applying, ask which accounts are needed, what data is pulled and for how long, who sees it before redaction, and how to disconnect afterwards. If you are not comfortable linking personal accounts, raise it at screening rather than after onboarding.

What it pays

$90–110/hour, micro1's published figure, the same band as its UK counterpart, Personal Finance Expert (UK). The ad gives no compensation structure, weekly hours or project length.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A good rate for planners and advisors whose day job is exactly this
  • 30 openings, flagged new and high demand
  • Rubric drafting counts as part of the role, not only grading
  • No AI background required

Less good:

  • Linking personal bank accounts is a real privacy decision
  • No hours, duration or pay structure published
  • Keeping current on CRA and registered-account changes is unpaid homework unless the project says otherwise
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage
