What you'll do
This is a floor job: you work in person in Los Angeles, deploying robots into a live commercial setting and keeping them running through the day. Most of the time you are watching: robots repeat the same tasks, and your job is to notice when one stalls, drifts, fails or behaves oddly, then write it up in Jira clearly enough that an engineer can act on it.
Around that you handle the hands-on routines: systematic bring-up and shutdown, basic maintenance, teleoperation equipment under the prescribed safety protocols, and a tidy work area so parts and tools do not go missing. Processes change as the project matures, and the ad expects you to suggest improvements from what you see day to day.
The AI connection is indirect but real: uptime and clean failure reports are what let the customer collect good data and improve the robots' behaviour.
Who fits
- Good fine motor control and patience with repetitive, hands-on work
- The discipline to follow protocols exactly in a technical or mechanical setting
- Physical stamina for full days standing, moving and handling equipment up to 50 lbs
- Basic mechanical aptitude; robotics, hardware assembly or maintenance experience is a strong plus
- Clear written reporting, and comfort logging issues in a tool like Jira
- A recent robotics or mechatronics background is preferred but not required
What it pays
$10–20/hour, micro1's published band. That bottom figure sits below the Los Angeles minimum wage for employees, though as a contractor role those rules may not apply in the same way; ask where you would land before accepting. The ad does not state hours per week or shift patterns.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Real hands-on robotics exposure, useful if you want to move into robotics operations or field engineering
- No AI or degree requirement
- Ten openings, newly posted
Less good:
- Low pay band for physically demanding onsite work in an expensive city
- Onsite only: you must be able to get to the Los Angeles site daily
- No schedule, duration or commute details stated
- Contractor terms: no benefits, and you carry your own tax
About this listing
Posted by micro1 on its referral jobs board and read on 24 September 2026. The location line reads Los Angeles, and the ad says the engagement is onsite. micro1 runs a similar $10–20/hour onsite robotics role in San Francisco (Robotics Trainer - Internship), which is data capture with a handheld gripper rather than operating robots. Payment schedule is not stated.
