We earn a commission if you sign up through the links on this page. It costs you nothing and does not affect which jobs we list. How this works.

Skills
  • system design
  • code review
  • debugging
  • algorithms
  • data structures
  • software architecture

What you'll do

You read AI-generated code and judge it as you would a colleague's pull request: correctness first, then quality and design. Alongside that you write the problems (challenging engineering tasks with reference solutions and test cases) and review how the model reasons about architecture, debugging and system design rather than only whether its final answer compiles.

The deliverable is detailed technical feedback. The ad describes the work as a partnership with a leading AI lab, hiring senior engineers from top companies to push model performance on real-world software tasks. Being able to explain a technical decision in writing is a stated requirement here.

What you need

  • At least one year as a software engineer at a top technology company, with at least part of that time inside the past seven years
  • An undergraduate degree from a top-ranked university
  • A base in an English-speaking country
  • The ability to explain technical decisions clearly in writing

These are filed under "preferred qualifications", but "top technology company" plus "top-ranked university" works as a credential filter in practice. Which companies qualify is not defined anywhere in the ad.

On the country requirement: the ad restricts applicants to English-speaking countries without publishing which ones count. The eligibility field on this page is left open because the restriction is undefined, not because the role is worldwide. Confirm your own position before you apply.

What it pays

$245–280/hour, at the top of this board and several times what most AI-training engineering work pays.

The band is narrow at $35 wide, so the published number is close to the real one. What the ad omits is a compensation-structure section, so whether the hourly figure buys your time or is a per-task equivalent is unanswered. Ask before you accept.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • $245–280/hour is the top of this board, and several times what most AI-training engineering work pays
  • A narrow $35 band, so the published number is close to the real one
  • One year at a qualifying company is the floor, so this is not restricted to staff and principal engineers
  • The seven-year recency window is generous; experience from 2019 still counts
  • The work is real review and problem design, not labelling

Less good:

  • Five openings, against every engineer at a large tech company who has seen the rate
  • "Top technology company" and "top-ranked university" are pedigree filters, and which companies count is not stated, so you cannot tell in advance whether yours does
  • Restricted to English-speaking countries, which the ad does not define
  • No compensation structure stated, which at this rate is the most consequential omission on the page
  • No start timeline, no project duration, and the AI lab is not named
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, no notice period, your own tax to manage

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal, confirmed open on 7 September 2026. The $245–280/hour band and every qualification above are its own published text for this listing.

A restriction to English-speaking countries is stated but no list of them is published, so the eligibility field is left open rather than filled with a guess. "Top technology company" is also left undefined, and we have not substituted a list of our own. We could not verify the pay structure, the per-task rate, the project duration, or the identity of the AI lab. Screening and payment run at the platform level. See micro1.
