What you'll do

You record yourself doing ordinary housework. With your phone on a head strap, you film everyday chores from a first-person point of view while doing them as you normally would, and submit the footage. Video like this teaches AI and robotics systems how people actually handle objects and move through household tasks, which is why the angle and the synchronised capture matter more than production quality.

Onboarding has two steps before any recording: a device compatibility check and an AI-run interview. After that, candidates who meet the location and equipment rules are asked to complete identity verification, within 48 hours of being contacted, before a contract is issued.

Who qualifies

  • You live in one of the 40 eligible US states the ad lists (Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming)
  • You are eligible to work in the US
  • You own an iPhone 12 or later, a Google Pixel 6 to 9, or a Samsung Galaxy S21 or later
  • You are comfortable wearing a head-mounted phone rig
  • You can safely perform repetitive physical tasks

Not on the list: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington. The ad does not explain the exclusions.

What it pays

$14–15 per hour of recorded video that you submit and that meets the project guidelines. That is per hour of usable footage, not per hour of your time: setup, retakes and anything rejected are unpaid, so your effective rate will be somewhat lower.

There is also a $20 payment, described as both a signing bonus and reimbursement for the head strap, once you complete 20 hours of work.

Equipment and start

The ad is inconsistent on the head strap: one section says equipment is shipped to you, another says you buy a head strap and are reimbursed $20 after 20 hours. Confirm which applies before you order anything. Start dates depend on how long the strap takes to reach you; roles are otherwise being filled immediately.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No experience or qualifications needed beyond the phone and location
  • Chores you would do anyway become paid work
  • 4,000 openings, so it is not competitive in the usual sense
  • A narrow, clear pay band

Less good:

  • Paid per hour of accepted footage, not time spent
  • You are filming the inside of your home; check what is in frame (family members, mail, screens) and ask how the footage is stored and used
  • Ten states are excluded, with no reason given
  • ID verification with a 48-hour window
  • The head-strap arrangement is described two different ways
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
