Ubuntu/Linux User for AI Data Training

What you'll do

This is a hands-on job for people who already use Ubuntu or Linux day to day. You install applications on your own machine, follow written guidelines and complete structured tasks while recording what you do, checking your work before submission.

The ad is open about the nature of the work: detail-heavy and sometimes repetitive, so it rewards patience over expertise. It explicitly welcomes students, juniors and Linux enthusiasts, and says AI experience is not required.

What you need

  • A personal computer running Ubuntu or Linux
  • Comfort installing the apps, tools and project software the work needs
  • Enough tech skill to follow setup instructions independently
  • About 15 hours a week of availability
  • Patience, concentration and attention to detail with repetitive tasks
  • Basic computer literacy and confidence with browser-based tools

Nice to have

  • Prior AI data training, annotation, QA, software testing or research work (helpful, not required)

Where it is open

The listing is open in more than 60 countries across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, Turkey, India and Vietnam. The ad's country field is long, so check that yours is on it before applying.

What it pays

SME Careers lists this role at up to $20 an hour. That is a ceiling, not a rate: the ad does not say what a typical contractor earns, or how hours are allocated. It does not state payment terms either; SuperAnnotate's general process (Deel contracts, a paid bootcamp, tracked hourly work) is covered on the company page. This is among the lowest-barrier roles in the batch, with the same $20 ceiling as the Vim and VS Code specialist listings but a far wider country list.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No AI or professional experience required
  • Students and junior applicants are explicitly welcome
  • Open in more than 60 countries
  • Remote and hourly, with a known time commitment

Less good:

  • Tasks can be repetitive
  • About 15 hours a week of availability is expected
  • Up to $20 is a ceiling
  • Hourly work on SME projects is time-tracked, per the company page
  • Your own Ubuntu machine is a hard requirement

About this listing

Read from the SME Careers jobs board on 27 October 2026. The board gives no posting date, so we cannot say how long the role has been open. The interview, onboarding and time-tracking process is on the company page rather than repeated here. See SuperAnnotate.
