What you'll do

You write exam questions about charts, for an AI. Starting from information-rich charts in your own field, you design questions that can only be answered by reading the chart correctly and then reasoning through several quantitative steps: calculations, comparisons across series, trend analysis. Each question comes with a precise answer and a step-by-step explanation of how you got there.

The craft is in removing ambiguity. A good question has exactly one defensible answer, uses the chart's terminology correctly (units, axes, scales, legends, confidence intervals, time periods), and does not rely on conclusions the chart cannot support or on complexity for its own sake. Reviewers and project coordinators work with you remotely to tighten tasks that fall short.

Who fits

micro1 names six fields it especially wants: medicine and biostatistics, finance and economics, engineering and physics, earth sciences and GIS, data science and statistics, and operations and manufacturing. Beyond that:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant domain
  • At least two years working with domain charts or quantitative data, professionally, academically or in research
  • Skill at choosing and reading complex charts with multiple series, annotations or statistical features
  • The ability to write objectively answerable questions and explain calculations clearly in English
  • Comfort with asynchronous remote collaboration

An advanced degree, professional credential or deep specialisation is marked highly desirable, and experience writing assessments or benchmark questions is a plus. No prior AI experience is required.

What it pays

$25–50/hour, micro1's published band. The ad does not say what decides placement, so plan around $25 until you have an offer; a relevant advanced degree is the most likely lever given how the qualifications are framed. No pay mechanism, weekly hours or duration is published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Open to a wide range of quantitative professions, not only data scientists
  • A clear, well-defined task format
  • Two-year bar is modest
  • 50 openings, posted in the last fortnight and flagged high demand

Less good:

  • $25 is a low floor for people with advanced quantitative credentials
  • Writing genuinely unambiguous multi-step questions is slower than it looks, which matters if pay turns out to be per task
  • No hours, duration or pay mechanism stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits and your own tax to manage

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal eight days before we read it on 24 September 2026. The $25–50/hour band, 50 openings, the six named fields and the two-year experience preference are its published text. micro1's title uses a dash; we render it with a colon. No country restriction is stated and the customer is not named. See micro1.
