What you'll do
The ad is explicit that this is not animation, asset creation or rendering. It is AI training data: you review video of robotic arms completing real-world tasks and annotate what happens, using the customer's grading guidelines and dedicated annotation tools.
The reason micro1 wants compositors and animators is the vocabulary they already think in. You label motion, object interactions, spatial changes, task outcomes and errors, and interpreting those correctly draws on transforms, trajectories, timing, occlusion and physical plausibility. When a gripper passes behind an object, or a tracked item seems to jump between frames, someone who has matchmoved or keyed a shot will see what is going on faster than a generalist.
You also flag visual anomalies, tracking problems and ambiguous moments with short written notes explaining what you saw, review other annotations and give feedback when asked, and finish assigned batches on deadline.
Who fits
All listed as preferred:
- A professional or academic background in VFX, 3D animation, motion graphics, technical art, computer graphics or a related field
- A strong grasp of motion, timing, spatial relationships, object tracking, occlusion and continuity
- Familiarity with Blender, Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Nuke, After Effects or similar
- An eye for subtle motion changes, visual artifacts and inconsistencies
- Clear written descriptions of visual observations and edge cases
- Video annotation, visual QA, computer vision datasets, AI training or robotics experience, helpful but not required
The ad says no prior AI, robotics or annotation experience is needed. Location is listed as North America, Latin America, Europe, the UK and Oceania, a region list rather than named countries.
What it pays
$50–90/hour, micro1's published band, with nothing stated about what places you within it or about weekly hours and project length.
For comparison, micro1's 3D Animator / CGI Artist listing is actual animation work in Blender, Maya or Cinema 4D, on a much wider $15–80 band. This one pays a higher floor for reviewing footage rather than producing it.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A $50 floor, well above most annotation work
- No AI, robotics or labelling background required
- 250 openings and a "High demand" badge
- Your software skills count as evidence of the eye the project needs, even though you will not use them here
Less good:
- No creative output; if you want to animate, this is the wrong listing
- Batch-based footage review is repetitive
- The customer, weekly hours and project length are not published
- Contractor terms, with no benefits
