  • attention to detail

What you'll do

You record yourself reading sentences in Japanese, in one of two settings: a stationary car or a quiet office. The car sessions are the distinctive part. The project wants specific in-car noises produced on cue (a seatbelt click, a door opening, the tick of an indicator) so the resulting model learns to understand speech against the sounds a real cabin makes. The ad insists the vehicle stays stationary and everything is done safely.

Alongside the recordings you submit written feedback as the project requires, follow detailed linguistic and technical guidelines so the data stays consistent, and work with project coordinators remotely on clarifications and updates. Confidentiality and ethical-use rules apply to everything you submit.

Unlike its German sibling, this ad does not mention transcription or annotation duties; the scope here is recording plus written feedback.

Who fits

  • Native-level Japanese with clear enunciation and natural fluency
  • Good written and spoken communication in Japanese, plus English at B2 or above
  • The ability to follow precise instructions for audio quality and content
  • Comfort managing your own workflow in a remote setup
  • Attention to pronunciation, background noise and data accuracy

No professional recording experience or studio equipment is listed. These are preferred qualifications; no AI experience is needed. Practically, you will need a car you can record in while parked.

What it pays

$30–65/hour, micro1's published band, matching the German + English voice recorder listing. The listing is tagged part-time, though the formal role type is contractor and no weekly hours are stated. The ad does not explain placement in the band, and no payment schedule is published.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No studio gear or professional recording background required
  • Part-time tag suits people fitting this around other work
  • 80 openings and a "High demand" tag
  • No country restriction stated

Less good:

  • Access to a car is effectively required for the in-car sessions
  • Your voice becomes training data under the project's confidentiality and usage terms; read them first
  • More than a 2x spread with no published basis for placement
  • No weekly hours, project length or volume are stated
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, your own tax to manage
  • The customer is not named
