What you'll do

Japanese is a high-context language where models often stumble on register and nuance, and this role is aimed at improving that. The ad's description is general: read and summarise large content, split it into logical blocks, check its claims by online research, and work through puzzle-style questions with the model. When the model gets one wrong, you write the correct answer and the reasoning. Example tasks in the ad include working out which location grew most from monthly sales figures and a postman route puzzle.

English and Japanese are both required. The ad does not say which tasks use which language.

Who fits

  • Working English and Japanese (mandatory)
  • Good analytical and research skills, creative thinking, clear communication
  • Able to give constructive, detailed annotations
  • Self-directed remote worker with a laptop or desktop and a reliable connection
  • Preferred: degree in engineering, literature, journalism, communications, arts, statistics or similar (or experience instead), professional writing background, Excel and Google Suite, data interpretation

The ad says no specialised domain background is needed.

What it pays

The ad states no rate. Turing sets rates per project; see Turing. Only "competitive compensation based on experience and expertise" is stated.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Pick 20, 30 or 40 hours a week (minimum 4 hours a day)
  • Remote and flexible within the required overlap
  • No domain specialism needed
  • Possible contract extension

Less good:

  • Two-month contract
  • Needs 2 to 5 hours a day of overlap with US Pacific time (UTC-8); from Japan that means working very early or late hours, which is worth checking before you apply (the ad does not say whether exceptions exist)
  • Contractor engagement, no medical or paid leave
  • Pay is not shown up front

How you get in

Automated analytical challenge, then an English business writing assessment, then a Japanese language proficiency assessment.
