What you'll do

Music questions mix hard facts (who composed what, which key, which instrument) with judgement about style and theory, which makes them a good stress test for a language model. You write demanding prompts across music theory, genres, composers, artists, production and instruments, then judge the answers for accuracy, reasoning and nuance.

You also catch hallucinations and outdated claims, supply references, contribute to benchmark datasets and adversarial test cases, and collaborate with AI researchers. The ad includes notation and contemporary music trends in the knowledge it expects.

Who qualifies

  • Master's degree or higher in any field; Music, Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Music Education, Production, Audio Engineering or Performing Arts preferred
  • Strong knowledge of theory, composition, genres, history, production techniques and notation
  • 3+ years' experience, preferably in music education, performance, composition, production, journalism, research or audio engineering
  • Excellent written English and careful attention to detail

Preferred: LLM or AI evaluation experience, publications or teaching, independent working.

What it pays

The ad does not publish a rate. Turing sets rates per project, see Turing.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Rewards both academic and working-musician backgrounds
  • Subject mix of theory, history and production gives variety
  • Defined 8-week scope

Less good:

  • The work is text based; you evaluate written answers, and the ad does not mention audio tasks
  • 40 hours a week and at least 4 hours of Pacific-time overlap
  • Contractor assignment with no medical or paid leave
  • Assessment first
